Hi. Hello. Good morning.
I’ve been thinking that some of you might want a way to keep up with me without having to subject yourselves to the horrors of the attention economy and/or logging onto an app that makes you feel bad. (Some of you are not on social media at all, and I’m genuinely and painfully jealous.)
The idea is to lift the good stuff from my Twitter feed and Instagram stories. Here’s what I’m envisioning each newsletter will include:
Links to some of what I’ve written lately. I’m the deputy editor of Nieman Lab, so a lot of my published work touches on tech and “the future of journalism.” I’m especially interested in local news, online culture(s), and journalism’s role in a healthy democracy.
Micro reviews and recommendations — mostly books. I read a lot and, it feels like, more widely than ever. Hopefully some titles will strike you as interesting or worthwhile, too.
A photo of something I’ve made. A watercolor, piece of pottery, dinner party snacks, drawing, etc. The (immense) joy I get out of making stuff is not at all correlated with its quality.
And something that made me laugh. It’s what I like to see in my inbox, so why not assume the same is true for you?
What else do you need to know? Two large dogs, running, the White Mountains, and the NBA/Celtics will likely make appearances.
